Jansen "Jan" Noyes Jr. '39...

... third in a living line of five generations of Cornellians, in 1965 together with his wife Dorothy "Dottie" O'Day Noyes gave the campus a new freshman center and an endowment for its maintenance and improvement.

Chairman of Cornell's Board of Trustees from 1978 to 1984, Noyes was also an emeritus trustee and presidential councilor, as well as a sustaining member of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity.

Throughout his life, he devoted considerable effort to eradicating preventable blindness. A personal trustee to Ms. Helen Keller starting in 1946, he served as director of Helen Keller International continuously until 1996.

In 1946, Noyes became a partner in the firm founded by his father, Noyes & Co., and in 1980, became a founding partner of Noyes Partners Inc. and its president until 2003 (a year before he passed away).

Jansen "Jay" Noyes III '69 and Jansen Noyes IV '04 continue the Noyes family tradition of service and commitment to the undergraduate living experience at Cornell, their latest contribution being the new Noyes Community Recreation Center.
